Torrent to DVD?

Postby Ms Scarlett » Wed Jul 14, 2010 1:24 pm

So with my now supremo techno spazz skills, I've managed to download a whole movie through Bit Lord.

BUT I've done it at work because it's easier than fighting Mr Scarlett for t'internet at home. Plus I hate going anywhere near computers unless I'm at work.

So I need to convert it into a format I can use. I downloaded some software which claimed to be a free way of converting it and ripping to DVD. Needless to say it actually isn't and, unless I pay something, it'll have some stupid watermark over the whole film which I obviously don't want.

So doesn anyone know of any genuinely free software that will allow me to convert my 100% legally downloaded film so I can burn it onto a DVD and take it home? Thanks :D

Thank Fitz! I've managed to burn it onto a DVD which seems to work. Just need to try it at home on laptop and DVD player before I can confidently pronounce I've cracked it!

Just out of interest, any idea why the file seems much smaller than normal? Usually when I burn films, they're close to 8gb but this one was only around 4gb, I think. Is it because it's just the film and there's no trailers and extras etc?

Its a far higher compression rate than anything else.

Well yes, that would have been my next suggestion. Compression rates, natch.

So I thought I'd cracked it but the DVD I burned will only play on VLC Media player (the one with the traffic cone symbol) and not on Media Player, nor will it play in my DVD player. It says there's nothing on the disc when I tried it.

So wtf have I done wrong?! I can't exactly remember what I did now but I think I converted the torrent file into an image then burned that onto a DVD. Which obviously hasn't worked.

sorry but can I please have an idiot's step by step guide on what to do?! Thanks :D
