Depends on your loyalty. the 360 and ps3 now have a vastly identical library of games from third party developers except the small librarys of in-house developers for Microsoft and SONY respectively. There are subtle differences due to the machine's capabilities or a developers preference, for example Bethesda only released some of the added content for Fallout 3 for the ps3 yet released the whole shebang of content for the 360. More sales on the 360 was a major factor as well. But in my opinion I'd suggest a 360, for one it's cheaper and I hardly know anyone else with a ps3 except ps2 fanboys who still believe that GTA is a SONY only franchise. The catalogue of downloadable games is also excellent.
The only gripe I do have is the shameful exploitation of the 360 users, in which microsoft charges you to play online. A game which will be released on the 360 and released on the microsft windows format may both be the same title, yet while it may be free to play online on the pc, on the 360 you have to pay. Couple that with more and more franchises requiring subscriptions (mmo's more than most), while £7 a month may not sound a lot, it's still a niggle. But to be fair it does pay for a lot of things you dont see. Rumours fly that Blizzard are tempted to release World of Warcraft on a console basis, that on the pc requires a subscription of 8.99 a month, couple that with the 360 subscrition of 6.99 and it adds up to 15.98. As much as I enjoy WoW, I wouldnt pay that much monthly.
As for the Wii, well I have still yet to see a title that remotely brings up a flicker of interest. If this offends anyone, apologies in advance. The Wii is still in my opinion a console aimed at 2 genres, and unintentionally one. The first 2 are what nintendo never strays far from, because it knows it will always have this market sewn up. And that is the small kid and the woman over 20. The vast majority of games for the wii are either the cute and cuddly strawberry muffin type that either involve your kid shaking his controller to make the monkey jump to collect the bananas, and while there is nothing wrong there I hasten to add, when you build up 100 games plus of said formula you start to wonder if any creativity has gone and the developers simply find a way to wring another drop out of the motion sensor. As for the other titles, ask any woman who has a wii what "game" they use and the answer is invariably.. "wii fit" Now again, congratulations for trying to get fit and congratulations to nintendo, the question begs, "so why not go to a gym?"
The unofficial market is of course the drunk gang of teens who have watched all dads porn dvds and the latest epsiode of Lost, so they stick on the wii and indulge in a spot of golf , baseball or tennis. The novelty of the Wii I would imagine has started to drop rather dramatically, as Nintendo now are rather cagey when it comes to announcing their quarterly performances, compared to last year they never missed a chance to shout from the rooftops how well they were doing.
It all boils down to Nintendo's greatest failing, and it may suffer the same fate as the iPhone. Nintendo is notoriously picky when it comes to handing out development kits, only a select few get kits and even then they are restricted in what they do. To get around this 3rd parties develop their own kits to get round Nintendo's almost titanium like stance and quite often improve on the original, albeit the games never see the light of day except in bootlegged downloads flaoting on the web. Just like Apple found with the iPhone, it's not the machine that makes the money roll in, it's the apps. Could Nintendo make the same mistake (again) with the game developing community for the Wii?
What a fuckin' donkey!
